Crossroads Committee

Crossroads Committee

In 1967 the Gorbals Group set up Crossroads Youth and Community Association, which acquired charitable status in November that year, and became a Company Limited by Guarantee in 1994. Crossroads was established as a constituted, charitable body able to employ staff and receive funding. It was designed to be, and remains a local, user-controlled and neighbourhood-rooted organisation, with a philosophy always to listen to the needs of local people, and to help them access services and rights.

Crossroads Board membership consist of no less than six and no more than fourteen in number at any time. Currently there are eight volunteer Board members who are responsible for the carrying out of the policy of the Association. The Board are all volunteers live locally and/or care about the welfare and wellbeing of the Gorbals and Govanhill communities.

The Board are the overall managers of Crossroads. They employ a team of workers to help them fulfill Crossroads’ aims to challenge that which is unfair or harmful to their communities, develop the welfare and wellbeing of their communities and promote positive change in the lives of local people.

The Board do this challenging work without monetary reward. Their motivation is purely based on a sense of responsibility and compassion for their communities. This commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of others and giving freely of one’s self and time to meet these ends lies at the heart of Crossroads values.
